PAAL: ARATHUPAAL

ADHIKAARAM 1:  KADAVUL VAAZHTHU- PRAISE OF GOD

“அகர முதல எழுத்தெல்லாம் ஆதி
பகவன் முதற்றே உலகு.“

Just as the alphabet begins with an A, everything in the world has its beginning from God.

Agara: the alphabet ‘A’; Mudhal: first; Ezhuthellam: all letters of the alphabet; Aadhi Baghavan: The Supreme or Primal God; Mudhatrae: having as the first; Ulagu: world.

So too, anything that is to be done, is begun with God.

Valluvar also follows this custom, and begins his work with the kadavul vaazthu: the first 10 kurals or couplets, are in praise of God.
