Perunkodaiyaan paenaan veguli avanin
Marungudaiyaar maanilathu ill
He who gives in plenty to others and restrains his anger will have a following larger than anyone else on this great earth.
Perum: great or large; Kodai: gift, charity; Paenaan: does not control; Veguli: anger; Marungudaiyaar: has a following; Maanilam: great land.
Sutram is a beautiful tamil word meaning those around us , relatives and friends. (Sutri means around) Valluvar explains the secret to preserving and gaining relatives and friends. If you give to others freely; help them in their time of need, you will have plenty of people around you. How much ever you give though, nobody likes to listen to harsh words; to bear the brunt of anger. In addition to giving plenty, if you can control your anger, you will have people around you who truly wish you well.
This Kural is especially apt for leaders and kings. A popular and loved leader is he who gives wholeheartedly and restrains his anger.
